George Eliot is widely regarded as one of the greatest novelists of the 19th century and a towering figure in English literature. This collection includes her 4 masterpieces:

1. Middlemarch (1871-72):
"Middlemarch" explores life in a fictional English town during the early 1830s. The novel interweaves several storylines, focusing on Dorothea Brooke, whose idealism clashes with a disappointing marriage, and Tertius Lydgate, a doctor whose ambition is compromised by a poor marital choice. The book examines themes of love, politics, and social reform, offering a profound portrayal of human nature and provincial life.

2. Silas Marner (1861):
In this novella, Eliot tells the story of Silas Marner, a reclusive linen weaver in the village of Raveloe. After being betrayed by a friend, Silas loses his faith in humanity. His life changes when he adopts Eppie, an abandoned child, who brings him joy and redemption. The novel explores themes of isolation, community, and the transformative power of love.

3. Brother Jacob (1864):
This short satire follows David Faux, an ambitious young man who tries to make his fortune by deceiving others. His plans are continually disrupted by his simple-minded but loyal brother, Jacob. The novella humorously critiques greed, self-deception, and moral hypocrisy.

4. Daniel Deronda (1876):
Eliot’s final novel follows Daniel Deronda, a compassionate young man torn between his English upbringing and his Jewish heritage. The book explores identity, love, and self-discovery, while also addressing issues of nationalism and spirituality.
